We don't use SLES to keep people busy. We use it to get people working.
Participants join our supported employment pathways in Decluttering, Cleaning, or Promotions — not as volunteers or observers, but as active contributors in real workplace environments. If they are transitioning from school and using SLES funding, they may not receive a wage during this phase, as the focus is on skill-building, routine, and supported learning on the job. They work on real teams. They receive structured, on-the-job coaching from experienced Employment Support Coaches who meet them where they're at, help them grow, introduce performance reviews, and guide them in taking responsibility for equipment — both their own and the company’s.
Whether it's mowing a lawn, delivering flyers, or wiping down a bench — the work is real, and so is the progress.
At Ability Pathways, we don’t prepare people for work. We put them in it.
We keep our SLES placements small on purpose — to make sure every young person gets the time, guidance, and structure they deserve. That means spots fill quickly. If you're a coordinator, carer, or family member considering supported employment for a school leaver, now’s the time to talk.
Because real progress doesn’t wait.
SLES is supposed to be a springboard, not a holding pattern. We use it the way it was meant to be used — to get young people into work, build real confidence, and open the door to a future that includes purpose, pay, and possibility.
